Body Language Lab Sessions
First you’ll review the following concepts by watching pre-recorded lessons. Then, watch the Lab sessions where you’ll learn tools to turn concepts into somatic practices. Our exploration will involve experimenting with what works for each individual. This is a science-based community focused on helping you understand what works for you and your body, as well as what doesn’t.
Session 1: Build Your Somatic Awareness
Get ready to explore your bodily awareness deeply and discover how you really feel. Learn how to describe specific sensations and emotions. Discover why the power of sensation is critical to emotional transformation. Use your somatic awareness to unlock the power of joy and awe.
Session 2: Understand Your Nervous System & Vagus Nerve
Learn how your body translates information from our environment into predictions that catapult you into action. Identify the components of the nervous system and the difference between sympathetic vs parasympethic states. Discover how the Vagus Nerve and Polyvagal Theory can help us understand our go-to stress responses and how to work with those responses, instead of resisting them. Walk away with tools to shift out of stress quickly.
Session 3: Cultivate Restoration & Resilience
You have to restore your body’s battery to overcome burn out and build resilience. Understand the importance of restoration, learn what practices restore your energy, and engage in a deep, restorative practice. Understand how to increase resilience over time. Explore your existing sources of resilience and how to tap into them more regularly.
Session 4: Move Through Activated Energy
Recognize the different ways your body tells you it’s activated by stress. Get comfortable sitting in your activated energy, mobilizing and releasing energy so that you can “unstuck” yourself. Participate in guided practices that explore different forms mobilization and find ones that work for you.
Session 5: Explore Your Coping Patterns
Examine how your body reacts automatically under pressure, also known as your conditioned tendencies (CTs). Explore how your conditioned tendencies are trying to take care of you emotionally and physically. Learn how to soften these reactions and respond in new ways. Discover somatic practices to come out of freeze and shut down.
Session 6: Shift Your Thinking
Learn why typical mindset practices like affirmations often don’t work and what to do instead. Understand why working with your body to change your thoughts is a more effective approach. Together we’ll explore embodied thought work practices to leverage emotions and sensations in order to shift out of negative thought loops.
Session 7: Celebrate Your Body
You can rewire your brain by learning how to celebrate the good. Reflect on your journey in this program. Appreciate your body more deeply through somatic exploration. Fully celebrate your body, in all its beauty, exactly as it is. Identify different ways that you can add more joy into your daily life.
“This program was everything I needed and didn’t even realize it! I’ve learned so many tools that have helped me reduce anxiety and avoid melting down. I use these practices weekly and often think to myself “What would Jaclyn suggest?” I love the trauma informed approach. Jaclyn’s passion and knowledge is palpable. I wasn’t expecting how FUN it would be.” - Rachel
A safe community to experiment, learn & grow
Discover the power of experimentation within the supportive environment of Body Language Lab.
We’ll delve deep into the evidence-backed science of the human nervous system, stress response, vagus nerve, trauma, and somatics. We’ll use this information to experiment with various practices so you can learn what works best for your body.
Sharing our experiences in a safe environment gives us the added benefit of collaborating while we test different theories that help us customize practices to an individual’s needs. By the end of the course, you’ll speak your body's language, and walk away knowing how to support yourself and master your emotions like never before.
“I feel unlocked. I’ve experienced incredible transformation during Body Language Lab. Now when I get overwhelmed or emotional I get curious and connect with my body instead of getting stuck. Jaclyn creates a safe space to come together and heal and feel in connection and community. I no longer feel broken or like it’s my fault when I struggle and that’s game changing. The somatic toolkit I’ve developed has been so supportive, especially doing yoga nidras regularly. Jaclyn is the light for you in the darkness and I love how playful Body Language Lab was.” - Abbey

Meet Your Facilitator
Hi! I’m Jaclyn Shea, MPH, creator of Body Language Lab
For the last decade plus, I’ve been working in health research, public health, and health tech, including developing curriculum, investigating motivations behind behavior changes, and facilitating educational workshops. For many years, my life looked perfect on the outside but as the traumas accumulated, I became more and more overwhelmed with depression and anxiety. I knew I needed to find a way off my rollercoaster of emotional intensity and lonely numbness.
I luckily found somatics and embodiment, which transformed my life. I was no longer at the whims of my trauma brain. I could finally calm the fuck down without leaning on destructive distractions such as marijuana, social isolation, or suicidal ideation. Now I live a life that focuses on joy. I feel more liberated than I ever imagined was possible. I understand the importance of being gentle with myself and moving through my emotions instead of side-stepping them.
I became certified in Somatic Stress Release™, Mind Body Coaching, and Somatic Parts Work. Helping people to heal from trauma, learn how to work with their stress and anxiety, and live joyfully is my life’s mission.
I designed Body Language Lab to be a supportive environment to explore different embodiment techniques while being in a group of others with similar struggles. There’s magic in working with a group of individuals who are each determined to transform their lives and get to cheer each other on. Past participants have learned that they are far from alone in their struggles and finding community while healing is a warm embrace. Everyone is encouraged to bring their curiosity, vulnerability and full selves to Body Language Lab.
I’ll simplify the complex science of somatics, the nervous system, and emotions AND guide you in embodiment practices so you build out your toolkit. You’ll experiment with what works for you! While our bodies are the same, we’re all different and, in Body Language Lab, we celebrate the beauty in our differences. I hope you’ll consider joining me and the next, unique group of lovely humans as we create lives full of joy, awe, laughter, and love.
“I’ve done a lot of work on myself and been in therapy but still felt disconnected from my body and struggling with my mental health. In Body Language Lab I’ve learned how emotions show up in my body as sensation or pain.
I now reach for practices I’ve learned like deep breathing, yoga nidra, being with the sensations or visualizations. I’m nurturing myself and have more momentum thanks to the juicy sessions and accountability. I notice less rumination and I’m more regulated.”
