My journey
I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression for more years of life than years I haven’t. After losing my brother in college I experienced waves of grief so it big it felt like it consumed me. I pushed on by numbing out. As the years passed I achieved great things, won awards, got into prestigious schools, and landed competitive jobs. My life looked impressive on the outside but my pain was becoming more and more unbearable. Anxiety so intense I couldn’t eat and would wake up so nauseous I’d throw up. Depression that had me curled in a ball crying. Always on edge, ready for what could go wrong. Neck and shoulder pain that become chronic. No matter what I did nothing lessened the pain. Numbing out was the only way through and yet the more I numbed the worse things got.
Rock bottom looked like constant anxiety, suicidal depression, smoking weed daily, becoming a recluse, being told by a Physical Therapist I’d need pain meds, and hating my life despite being “successful”.
Thank god for rock bottom. I was willing to try anything and began working with somatic aka body focused practitioners.
I slowly started to learn that
My physical and emotion pain wasn’t something to be numbed out - in fact they’re my greatest teachers
Experiencing trauma shaped my nervous system to see the world as negative and scary and thus I experienced the world this way
We can't think our way to healing. It is a felt, embodied journey to safety, dignity, and belonging
Today I feel more free and joyful than ever. My body holds so much less tension. I still have waves of intense emotions but I lean into them and use it to process my old wounds rather than run away or numbed out.
We heal by connecting with our body.
Guiding principles
The body holds our trauma
We’ve all experienced trauma - living in our broken society is traumatic. From mild run of the mill trauma to full on PTSD, trauma changes our brain and shows up in our body and our actions.
Our body is constantly sending us signals - from where tension shows up to our emotional patterns. Our job is to listen and learn.
Our brains can be rewired
Our brain is neuroplastic meaning it can change. Our brain is full of neural connections that literally influence how we see the world. Our life experiences, including trauma, creates these neural connections.
We can shift and create new neural connections by combining somatic (body) practices and thought work.
We heal through our bodies
The emerging research on trauma strongly suggests that talk and cognitive modalities don’t work but somatic modalities do.
My goal is to help you connect with your body in a deeper way, learn how to move through what you previously shut down, and embody new ways of beings
What People Are Saying
“
Jaclyn helped me recognize my body’s response to different emotions and the patterns that come with them. She guided me through tapping and introduced me to new methods and resources I can use when I’m feeling stressed and overwhelmed. These practices allow me to feel calm and in control of my feelings in the present moment. They’re a part of my routine, they help my mind and body maintain a healthy balance.

“
Jaclyn leads with compassion, empathy, and honesty. She creates intentional spaces that allow others to see and feel seen, share and feel celebrated and worthy on our self care/love journeys. I now celebrate the progress of small steps, small affirmations and practices that I know can make big changes. Her framework is supportive, celebratory, and has a nonjudgmental “take what you need” philosophy.

“
I love Jaclyn’s work. I’m not “good” at meditating but she meets you where you’re at and I’m able to engage as I’m able.

Okay so what is somatics?
Soma comes from the Greek word for “living organism in its wholeness” and is more than our mind, body, and spirit. Soma is the integrated embodiment of our entire being. From this lens, we can see both the impact of trauma and experience of healing as deeply intertwined with all aspects of our essentiality.
Somatics in practice works through the body to engage our thinking, emotions, commitments, vision, and action to move towards our true self and highest desires.
Somatic Stress Release™
Somatic Stress Release™ is a holistic approach that recognizes the complex layering of each individual's relationship to stress. The inability to process and actualize our stress response creates an overwhelm in the body. This can take us away from feeling at home in our body, and creating a split within ourselves. This disconnection leaves us with less resources to work through stress to adapt and return to balance. Addressing this damaging cycle is an integral component of this modality. Returning to our primal modes of processing stress through body-based therapeutic techniques allows us to come home to ourselves to address habitual responses more quickly of internal and external stressors, and processes unresolved and stored stress in the body.
